As a self-proclaimed lover of stinky foods, I fear this is even too far.
I can get down with a dirty martini with blue cheese olives, a pickle martini, and a spicy margarita, but this cocktail has crossed the line. Kroger, a grocery store chain, is getting quite the heat on social media after sharing what they penned as the “cocktail of the summer.”
The “Glizzarita,” as one social media user called it, is a cocktail with the main ingredient being hot dog water. Yes, you read that correctly. After boiling up some hot dogs for the family, use that extra water to make this delicious cocktail.
The cocktail features one part hot dog water, a squeeze of lemon, and what appears to be one part of a rye whiskey. After adding to a shaker with ice, the drink is served in a glass rimmed with pickle juice, salt and pepper, and garnished with a pearl onion, a slice of tomato, a pepperoncini, and a grilled mini dog.
While I must admit the drink’s coloring is about the color I like my dirty martinis to look, I can’t stomach the fact that it has hot dog water as an ingredient. I won’t knock it until I try it, but something about this feels sinister.
The post quickly gained attention for its creative use of typically discarded water, with many viewers questioning why it was a good idea.
“Kroger, everything OK at home?”
“KROGER NO!’
“Kroger wildin’ out.”
“Everyone’s so creative! See how it looks like we weren’t supposed to do that!”
“And this is why we shop at HEB.”
“I beg your pardon.”
“This might actually taste good, but I’d never try it on principle.”
“I just started crying.”
I think I’ll stick to my dogs with a squeeze of mustard and ketchup, but thanks for the inciting offer on this one, Kroger!
