Was this the smart decision? Absolutely not. But was it pretty cool? It sure was.
A golfer playing Sierra Star Golf Course at Mammoth Mountain in California found himself in a pretty precarious situation during his round. No, his wayward tee shot didn’t end up in the high grass, a bunker shot wasn’t buried in the sand, or he couldn’t find his ball after what he thought was a great shot, it was much more (potentially) deadly than that.
After making it to the edge of the green, he went to go putt and found that there was a spectator sitting and waiting to see how he was going to play it. That spectator was a quite large black bear, who was sitting just a few yards behind him near the wood line.
Normal people, heck even some crazy people, would get as far away from the bear as possible and wouldn’t even think about playing the shot until the bear got far away, but not this dude. Nope, he lives or dies by the “play it where it lies” rule and a bit of local wildlife wasn’t about to stop him.
Hilariously, his buddy who was filming tried to give him some confidence while he was turning his back on the bear (obviously a big no-no) by saying “I got your back”, which he almost certainly did not, but nothing mattered to this guy who clearly has ice running through his veins.
Even without the bear it was a tough putt, from the fringe about 20 feet out, but he absolutely drained it with a man eating beast staring him down. I dream of making one of these every time I play (without the bear, of course) and here this guy is doing it under all the pressure in the world.
I will stress that this is not advisable behavior but man, it sure is cool to watch.
