Jelly Roll is no stranger to breaking the law with his colorful past. While he has completely turned his life around now, Jelly Roll often shares stories about his past, where he was in and out of jail for dealing drugs and other crimes.
On The Howard Stern Show, Jelly Roll tells fans a hilarious arrest story he has kept to himself all these years.
Stern starts off the segment joking with Jelly Roll that although he had some hard living growing up, leading him to sell drugs, he must not have been an outstanding drug dealer given his arrest record.
Jelly chuckles and tells Stern a story that leaves Stern in a fit of giggles:
“I was the worst criminal ever. My successfulness of running from the police is 0 and 20. I’ll tell you this last funny story, I’ll tell about it. I was probably fifteen years old, and I got arrested once, and I was on a Xanax bar, Howard.
I’ve never told this story…but you know how Xanax makes you a little slow anyway? In my mind, when the police pulled us over, I was like, I’m just going to run. So I opened the door, and in my mind, I jumped out and sprinted across the field and almost made it.”
If only that were the case.
“I was so fat and Xanaxed out that I stood out, got two steps, the cop was standing there watching me, and I fell. He was just laid on top of me. He felt so bad for me he didn’t even charge me for trying to run.”
That’s when you know you are in the trenches…it’s funny how things play out so differently in your mind when you’re high.
Of course, Jelly Roll has gone from criminal to country music superstar, and it’s refreshing to hear someone be so candid about their checkered past… and ever present reminder that it’s never too late to turn things around.
