As someone who spends nearly all of their free time (which, as a father of two under 3 and a business owner is very little) bass fishing in the waters of southern Wisconsin, I’ll confess I have yet to make it out for an off-shore fishing trip. I was in Rosemary Beach, Florida, last summer and had one booked, but my captain called me at 5am to inform me that his boat was broken (it was booked for July 5th, I think he was just hungover… I know I was).
Some day though, I’ll finally get my chance to get out there and land some fish like this.
According to his Instagram account, Jaga Cunningham is a professional game, sport and spearfishing guide based in Australia and the surrounding islands. And let’s just say some of the pics he’s shares are incredible:
But if you’ve ever gone deep sea fishing, or maybe you’re just familiar with the sport, you know that you will inevitably have to pay the tax man at some point. And no, I’m not talking about Uncle Sam… I’m talking about sharks.
The most common form of “tax man” in deep sea fishing is sharks who steal your catch after you’ve hooked into it, leaving you with nothing more than a head when you finally get your prize to the surface. Whales can also come to collect, but most anglers are usually referring to sharks. And what makes matters even worse? Sometimes you can spend a good chunk of time and effort reeling in a big fish only to have it mauled right below the surface.
For this dogtooth tuna, a shark left nothing but the head by the time they got it into the boat.
“The emotional roller coaster of chasing doggies! So close yet so far…”
You hate to see it…
