Closing out their touring career at one of the most iconic venues in country music.
Earlier this year, The Steel Woods announced they would stop touring at the end of 2024, after the release of their most recent record, which was heavy with emotion after the band tragically lost their lead guitarist and co-founder Jason “Rowdy” Cope at just 42 years old in 2021.
Wes Bayliss took to Instagram after the release of On Your Time, noting the group would be coming off the road indefinitely.
“After 8 unforgettable years of touring, we have made the decision to come off the road at the end of 2024, closing this chapter of our lives on a good note. When Rowdy and I first met and started playing together back in 2015, we had many conversations about what the future would hold for us as a band, and as individuals.
We would discuss the kind of music we wanted to create, the impact we wanted to make, and the experiences we hoped to share with all of you. The one thing we always agreed was most important was that there is a sense of purpose in everything we do.
Now, the prideful side of me would say that after all these miles down the road, we knocked it out of the park in that regard. But so much has changed in the last few years. Rowdy passing in 2021 was such an incredible loss on every level.
Picking up and carrying the music on has seemed like the right thing to do, although continuing what he started without him has not been easy in the least.”

While the news of the band choosing to stop touring was met with the sad news that they would no longer be touring with Blackberry Smoke in the fall, today, the band announced the location for their final show, and it’s a good one.
It’s a bittersweet announcement that they will close their touring career at The Mother Church:
“We’re honored to announce that our last show will be headlining The Mother Church on November 22nd. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 7th.”

While it is heartbreaking for the group to stop sharing their music on the road, what a venue to go out with. I am sure The Ryman will be filled with fans who will forever cherish spending the final evening with The Steel Woods at a venue with such a rich history.
