Dwight Yoakam was in his home state of Kentucky this weekend, playing the second day of the annual Railbird Festival in Lexington on Sunday. But apparently things got a little too hot for the country music legend.
During his set, fans in the crowd began to notice that something was off with the 67-year old singer as he seemed to be struggling through his first couple of songs.
By the time he got to “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” Dwight was clearly not doing well as he walked away from the microphone and gestured for water.
He finally left the stage, before returning (minus his jean jacket) a few minutes later, explaining to the crowd that it was only the second time in his career that he thought he was going to pass out on stage:
“They gave me a shot of some Kentucky bourbon and I’m better now.
I said, ‘Man oh man.’ I kept looking at that storm cloud and I started seeing images of things coming out of it and I was like, ‘This is not right.’
But thank you for your patience, and sorry about that. It is historic for me, that’s only the second time in my entire career, about 38 years now, that I ever started to pass out on stage. Except for just, you know, the vapors at how good I might have thought I was at one time.”

Still had a sense of humor about the whole thing.
Dwight said the medics told him maybe he shouldn’t go back out, but he said, “Maybe I should.” And that’s what he did, as he delivered performances of “Honky Tonk Man” and “Guitars, Cadillacs” before ultimately cutting his set short by about 10 minutes.
After the festival, his team took to social media to assure fans that Dwight was ok:
“Dwight would like to thank all the fans at Railbird for braving the elements with him this afternoon. With the combination of heat and humidity, Dwight had a quick spell of heat exhaustion but he is absolutely fine, and appreciates the fans singing along to help carry him through to the end of the set! And thank you to the Railbird staff and EMTs for the quick response and the all clear!”
Good to see he’s alright now. Maybe next time just leave the jacket on your bus.
