Python Curls Up Around A Bird While Hanging From A Roof In Australia

Well… I’m not booking a trip to Australia anytime soon.

The “Land Down Under” is home to over 170 land snake species, and a number of those are venomous. So if you’re like me, that’s all I need to hear to cross off Australia from my vacation destination list. Sometimes I have a hard time fathoming that people actually live in that death trap of a country.

And they don’t just live in it, they thrive in it. To the point where if they see a snake dangling from their roof, wrapping itself around a poor bird, they just pop their phone out and hit record. The Australian residents went right up to their window to watch a diamond python make short work of a sizable bird, and gave this commentary as they witnessed the horrendous act:

“Oh my God he is eating him up. That’s a poor little birdie. That’s in our roof. Sleep tight.”

Casually making a joke about a snake living in your roof? Holy smokes, Australians are on a different level. Or “built different,” as they say. One of the two.

The story didn’t end there though. One of the gentlemen in the video decided that he would go up on his roof and catch the thing, and that he did. As the video progresses, you see a picture of the man holding the snake (which honestly doesn’t look as big as it did initially) and I just assumed that he… you know, “took care of it” after that.

But apparently that’s not the Australian way. Instead, the footage transitions to the snake hanging up in a mesh bag in the back of a moving car. The man who caught the python and his presumed wife or girlfriend were then transferring the snake to another place to live out its days, as he explained in the video:

“Just a little python. Just a little diamond python. We’re giving him a new home that’s not inside our roof.”

Wow, they are definitely better and braver people than me. If I would have seen a python hanging out of my roof and coiled up around a bird, I probably would have just moved houses entirely and said, “That’s the snake’s house now. We had a good run there.”
