I’ve missed this trio.
Over the weekend, Miranda Lambert headlined three nights at Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, Texas, and of course, she had a few surprises up her sleeve for the home state crowd.
From Wade Bowen to Jake Worthington, and her Marfa Tapes collaborators Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, there were plenty of Texans present at the show to make it just a little bit more special than a regular Miranda concert.
And of course, one of my favorite moments was when Jack and Jon joined her for a beautiful, stripped-back performance of “In His Arms,” from their aforementioned 2021 album The Marfa Tapes, which they wrote and recorded at a cabin in the middle of nowhere out near Marfa, Texas several years ago now.
It was full of raw, unfinished recordings which were basically demos, but a refreshing project that showed off the perfectly imperfect magic of quality country music and the storytelling that makes it so unique. Honestly, it was pretty ahead of its time in terms of that raw, singer-songwriter type of sound that’s so popular right now, but I digress…
“In His Arms” is a beautifully heartbreaking song that finds Miranda remembering a cowboy she used to love and wishing that she could be in his arms again for the night, and it’s so fun seeing the three of them up on stage together again.
If you’ve never heard this one before, it’s high time to change that. It’s always been one of my favorites from these three:

And how ’bout a little bit of Wade Bowen and Adam Hood joining Miranda to create The Pistol Mannies (a play on the name of her girl band The Pistol Annies) singing “Hell On Heels” during night one? I love it…
