Here’s to the late, great Glen Campbell.
Today, the new duets album GLEN CAMPBELL DUETS – Ghost on the Canvas Sessions is out everywhere, which honors the country legend and reimagines his 2011 farewell album with some of the biggest names in music.
Campbell’s original vocals have been blended with tons of artists like Eric Church, Elton John, Brian Wilson, Carole King, Hope Sandoval, Linda Perry, Sting and Brian Setzer for the project.
Plus, not only are those big names on vocals, but Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Chris Issak, Wendy Melvoin (Prince and the Revolution), Rick Neilsen (Cheap Trick), Steve Hunter (Lou Reed), The Dandy Warhols, Chris Chaney, Jason Faulkner Jr., Kim Bullard, Josh Freese (The Foo Fighters), Vinny Caliuta, Marti Rifkin, Dick Dale and Tim Pierce contributed with their musical talents, which is really damn cool.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a tribute album to Glen Campbell without his friend Dolly Parton, who is featured with him on “A Better Place.” The song was originally included on Campbell’s 2011, 61st studio album Ghost on the Canvas, which intended as his farewell studio recording following his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease.
Co-written by Campbell and Julian Raymond, Dolly says it’s a “great honor” to be included, saying “A Better Place” is one of “the sweetest songs I’ve heard”:
“Singing anything with Glen Campbell is a great honor, but the song itself, ‘A Better Place,’ was one of the sweetest songs I’ve heard. I was proud to be a part of that.”
It simply doesn’t get much better than these two country legends… here’s to Glen Campbell and all of his great music.
