If there is one thing that makes the bluegrass community so special, no one cares about the level of fame. It’s all about the talent they see.

Billy Strings closed out his second night at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena before he hits The Ryman for his third show of the weekend. He burned the roof off the arena the last two nights, and on the second night, he brought out legendary guests like Sam Bush and Bryan Sutton. But he also brought out a very special guest during the solo portion of his set.

While sitting on center stage after singing”Be Your Man,” he brought out 10-year-old Myles Gee to join him on stage. He noted that he was sent videos of Myles from Jack White and had the honor of meeting the Kentucky native after the first night at Bridgestone.

“Billy Strings played “Waymore’s Blues” with me last night.”

Blown away by this young boy’s talent, he asked him to sit in on a song with him during the second night. I must admit I was unfamiliar with Gee, so when I saw a young boy walk onto the stage, I knew the audience was in for something special, and he did not disappoint.

With talent well beyond his years, Gee carries the outlaw spirit with a flat-picking style that makes for a gritty country/bluegrass combo. The large stadium did not phase Gee one bit from the viewer’s perspective, and he belted out the classic song’s lyrics.

The whole time, Strings is looking at the young talent in awe, and it’s so cool to see an artist with such a huge platform use it to help kickstart Gee. Strings is a champion for those who keep the bluegrass tradition alive, and sharing special moments like this with young artists keep the spark and love for the sound alive. Good on Billy Strings for making a core memory for Gee that night.
