Kicking the party off a little too early…

Patrick Mahomes is set to lead the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII next week in Las Vegas. But apparently dad couldn’t wait to celebrate – and landed behind bars this weekend.

The quarterback’s father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was arrested in Texas last night and charged with “driving while intoxicated for the third time or more.” He was booked into the Smith County Jail his bond has been set at $10,000. It appears that he is still behind held in jail.

According to public records, Mahomes Sr. has a lengthy criminal history in his hometown, mostly from alcohol and drug related charges.

He was arrested way back in 2012 for using a cell phone in a school zone and driving while intoxicated, though it appears that charge was ultimately pled down to reckless driving.

In 2014, Mahomes was charged with possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, to which he pled no contest.

Then in April 2018, he was charged with a slew of charges, including DWI, another open container violation, as well as possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. All of the charges were dismissed except for the DWI, to which he pled guilty and was sentenced to 40 days in jail. Mahomes served his jail time on weekends.

The latest arrest comes just a week before his quarterback son takes the field in the Super Bowl, and is just the latest in a long line of legal trouble for the former MLB pitcher who spent time with the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, the Texas Rangers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

More recently, Mahomes Sr. made headlines for commented that he “hoped” he wouldn’t be sitting in a box alongside Taylor Swift, Jason Kelce and Brittany Mahomes for the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens.
