What would you do in this situation?
Mountain lions are known for their incredible stalking skills and stealth, making it incredibly difficult for their prey to detect them out in the wild. Seriously, one could be staring you down from only a few feet away, and if you aren’t extra careful, you could never even know it was there… until it’s too late.
So, whenever you’re out in the woods hunting or going on a hike, you need to always be aware of your surroundings in mountain lion country because you never know who or what may be stalking you.
In this wild video, you can see a mountain lion hiding behind a rock, and in a full on stare down with a Colorado hiker. You can hear the hiker say:
“You hold in there kitty… I see you you, yeah I see you. Yep, be good kitty… You behave, get back on out of here.”
The mountain lion then gets up, and begins to slowly walk in the opposite direction, but still keeping a close eye on the hiker the whole time. You can also hear the hiker say that he has a pistol, which you should always keep with you while going on a hike by yourself in more remote parts of the country. If nothing else, you can carry bear spray which should help you protect yourself from aggressive predators.
Although mountain lion attacks are rare, they can happen, so you always need to know what to do whenever you’re being stalked by one.
According to the National Park Service, you need to wave your arms slowly and speak firmly and loud if you ever find yourself in this situation. If that doesn’t work, without crouching or turning your back, begin to throw stones, branches etc. towards the creature in an effort to scare it away.
