The gaming world has never paid much attention to country music fans — until now.
If you follow your favorite country artists on social media, you may have seen them talking about – and playing – a new mobile game featuring some of their own songs.
Everyone from Charles Wesley Godwin to Mike and the Moonpies has been teasing their involvement.
Well, the new game is called Country Star, and it drops today on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. It’s free to download, and it not only allows you to play along with your most loved country songs, but also to compete against your friends.
Country Star comes to us from Space Ape, the same folks who made Beatstar, which is currently one the #1 music games in the app store. And as somebody who’s been playing Beatstar for awhile now, I can tell you it’s insanely addicting as you tap, swipe and hold along to your favorite songs.
The best thing about the game though has to be the playlist that they’ve put together for the app.
The best thing about Country Star has to be the playlist that they’ve put together. Of course it features classics like “Chattahoochee” by Alan Jackson and “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton, but there are also more recent hits from superstars like Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs.
And it’s not just mainstream country music either. From southern rock to Americana to bluegrass and red dirt — there’s music from artists like Zach Bryan, Morgan Wade, Flatland Cavalry, Hailey Whitters and Cody Jinks, plus hundreds of other incredible artists. As you play, you’re able to unlock more songs, share new music with your friends, and earn rewards as you level up.
It’s nice to see a game like this where – no pun intended – country music truly is the star. And of course, just like with Beatstar, the graphics and gameplay are as slick as they come, so it’s easy to jump right in start playing as soon as you download.
The game is available NOW, so you can download Country Star here and start playing along to all of your favorite country songs.
Maybe you can even beat Charles Wesley Godwin at his own song…
