There’s nothing like a drunk tattoo story… especially when you are not on the receiving end.
Ashley McBryde has plenty of tattoos of her own, each with their own stories. But she recently sat down with Inked Magazine and shared a hilarious tale of a fan at Billy Bob’s getting their own tattoo – of her signature.
The world’s largest honky tonk turned into the world’s largest party when an overserved concert goer approached McBryde after the show asking her to sign his chest.
“I was down at Billy Bob’s in Texas…to say he was buzzin’ like pawpaw’s cousin is a gross understatement.
He comes up to me and tells me that I’m his next ex-wife. He’s like, “You gotta sign my chest, you gotta sign my chest.”
I was like, I can’t sign your chest because you are going to go get it tattooed.”
As McBryde has her own collection of ink, she knows exactly what this man planned to do and the recoil it would cause, given this next part of the story.
“And you’re all sweaty, which means the Sharpie isn’t going to write on your skin properly. Also, you shouldn’t just tattoo Sharpie to you…like there’s a series of steps.
Your tattoo artist is going to be very upset. I should sign a piece of paper, and then you should think about it.”
At this point, I am already dying in the story because can you imagine how this interaction went down between a calm and cool McBryde and a drunk who is hell-bent on getting that signature? McBryde showing her concern for correct tattoo processes makes it even better.
At this point, you think she will turn the guy away, but given his begging, think again.
“So I signed his chest…and the Sharpie didn’t work. So I had to scribble it a bunch of times, so the ‘A’ is all weird and misshapen and totally asymmetrical.
And I looked at his friends and said, “Do NOT take him to get a tattoo.”
A few hours later, my record rep sent me the photo of the guy… with the worst signature I have ever done, tattooed to his body for the rest of his life.
And I hope that his next ex-wife appreciates it.”
