Willie cuttin’ that grass…
Willie Nelson is gearing up to release his 99th career studio album Bluegrass (his 74th solo studio album to go along with his 26 collaborative studio albums) on September 15th, after just turning 90 years young in April.
The project will feature Willie performing new versions of 12 of his self-written favorites with a bluegrass ensemble on the production, including classic hits like “On the Road Again,” “Yesterday’s Wine,” “Still is Still Moving to Me,” and “Good Hearted Woman.”
Bluegrass was produced by his longtime collaborator and friend Buddy Cannon, and he previously released the lead single “You Left Me a Long, Long Time Ago” in June.
This will actually be Willie’s first time officially dabbling in the bluegrass genre with a record, in a salute to the Appalachian old-time string band music and Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys, which greatly inspired Willie’s legendary songwriting style.
And today, he released a reimagined version of his 1993 single “Still Is Still Moving To Me,” which was included on his 40th studio album Across the Borderline, and also included a beautiful duet with Sinéad O’Connor called “Don’t Give Up,” in addition to features from Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and more.
Willie initially dedicated the song to all of the men and women of the Blue Angels, as well as the greater Navy and Marine Corps, and this new version is just so much fun.
It has a really catchy melody, and will make you wanna get up and dance from the very first note, and makes me all the more excited to hear how he remade some of his other timeless hits.
I truly don’t think this man has ever written or recorded a bad song in his nine decades of life, and that’s not hyperbole… the legend of the one and only Willie Nelson lives on with another banger.
