Big Velvet does it again, and man, do I like this sound.

Paul Cauthen is back with a new soft country rock single, “Desert Woman.”

The country artist is back in the studio after signing a publishing deal with One Riot, which Reservoir Media owns. The deal was a massive win for Cauthen in May, announced right after dropping his last single, “Wild Man.”

I am so glad to see and hear that this deal is letting Cauthen create music that still aligns with his funky East Texas sound.

“Desert Woman” is the first release from a session I did with my band, the Hot Grease Fire, at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, where greats like Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, and Otis Redding also laid down tracks.”

The best thing I read in that caption promoting “Desert Woman” is that there will be more from this studio session.

This single was the perfect way to come out swinging. It highlights the versatility of Cauthen’s vocals revealing the softer side, while the melody has California surf country roots elements, making it a perfect song for summer.

The story is told through the lyrics of star-crossed lovers and the narrator having to face that their time might not be now, but the “Desert Woman” is always on his mind.

Here’s a quick look at the lyrics:

“Desert woman
Desert woman on the run
Left the hell where she came from
Desert woman has no fear
Desert woman

Now she holds a hand with a brand new man down in Austin
He won best at show in the rodeo, he’s ridden and rode from here up to Boston
He’s got a desert woman.”

This is a good one.

Check it out.

Alongside the new single, Cauthen announced his next tour, This Road I’m On, with killer supporting talents like Colby Acuff, Tanner Usrey, and Uncle Lucius.

‘Bout to hit the road big time! Can’t wait to bring you along This Road I’m On… ’cause it’s been a wild one.

Got Colby Acuff, Tanner Usrey, and Uncle Lucius coming along for the ride, too. Get presale tickets starting Tuesday at 10 am local.”
