The best holiday of the summer is quickly approaching as the Fourth of July is just two weeks away.

Americans will celebrate our country’s independence day however they choose, but for most, they’ll be spending time outside, in some capacity, firing up the grill and popping a few tops in the name of freedom.

If you’re near Austin, TX you’re lucky, though, because you can take part in one of the greatest Fourth of July traditions ever: Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic.

Nelson released the lineup for this year’s event not too long ago, and it is one of the best lineups I’ve seen in a while.

Set to take place on July 4th at Austin’s Q2 Stadium, the show will feature performances from Willie, of course, as well as Tyler Childers, Dwight Yoakam, Shane Smith & the Saints, and more

Originally hosted at the Hurlbut Ranch in Dripping Springs, TX circa 1973, Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic has been held annually, with several exceptions, ever since.

With what I believe will be the 39th installment of the tradition this coming July, the vast majority of events have been held in Austin, or at least throughout Texas, but throughout its history six states have hosted the event.

Just a couple of days ago, a post made to Willie’s Instagram account highlighted some of the event’s lineups from years past.

“A look back at a few of the notable 4th of July Picnic posters throughout the years! Less than a month out from Willie’s Annual 4th of July Picnic”

Out of curiosity, I looked back at the rest of the past lineups, and to no surprise, ol’ Willie has been able to pull together some pretty insane lineups over the years.
