It’s officially Father’s Day weekend, and it’s time to celebrate all the dads out there who have helped mold us into the people we are today.

So, what better way to celebrate all of the great dads out there than by a good ol’ country song?

With that being said, Stephen Wilson Jr. dropped the ideal Father’s Day song today.

The song is a beautiful tribute to Wilson’s late father, who raised him on his own.

He weighed in on the new release:

“Being born in the shadow of a man greater than his name and to be given the same, I was gifted with this song as an attempt to rationalize my inherent conflict between heredity & identity.

Am I me or am I him, and who is he? Whoever I was before died with him, and now I am what I am with a mighty anchor that is his legacy dragging an ocean floor full of formative memories.”

Wilson’s father was a notable boxer in his home state of Indiana, and even went on to become an Indiana State Golden Gloves finalist.

“You don’t have to put ‘Jr.’ after your name. It’s an optional suffix. But it is very powerful. It carries a lot of weight in the sport of boxing, because it means you’re an extension of your father.

I’m an artist now, but when I see my name on a show poster, I still look at it like a fight card.”

Needless to say, the song is spot on when it comes to all the dads out there.

Whether we realize it or not, good or bad, there is always a piece of us that resembles our fathers or father figures.

Give it a listen:
