Well this is, um… interesting.
The 58th ACM Awards are right around the corner, slated for this Thursday, May 11th.
The show will be livestreamed at The Star in Frisco, Texas exclusively on Prime Video at 8:00 PM EDT, being co-hosted for the first time by Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks.
And while we already know reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Ashley McBryde, Dolly Parton, Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson and more country stars are set to take the stage for performances, it was just announced that British pop mega star Ed Sheeran will also be performing.
In an announcement this morning, Ed said he’s looking forward to appearing on the ACM’s for the very first time:
“Who said the Brits don’t have a little bit of country in them? I’m excited really excited to be at the Academy of Country Music Awards this week.
This is the first time that I’ll be performing on it and I am super pumped about it, and I hope to see you there.”
And while it sucks that we have to pull pop stars into the show to I guess entice viewers to tune in as opposed to some other very deserving country artists that will probably never be invited to the ACM’s, I certainly don’t think Sheeran’s going to botch it or make a mockery out of country music, either.
He’s actually become pretty good friends with none other than Mr. Luke Combs, who covered Ed’s song “Dive” and even brought him out on stage for a duet of it back at C2C fest in London last year.
Who knows, maybe we might even see them team up together again… maybe even a little “Fast Car” duet? I’d be intrigued…
And in terms of this years nominees, Morgan Wallen is up for his first Entertainer of the Year Award, and Hardy and Lainey Wilson lead the pack with seven and six nominations, respectively. Zach Bryan is also up for his first-ever ACM Award in the New Male Artist of the Year category.
