Aaron Watson To Release Cover Of Taylor Swift’s “Never Grow Up” This Friday

Of all the things I thought we may see in 2023, this was not on my bingo card.

Aaron Watson took to Instagram today to let us know he’s got a new song coming out this Friday, but it’s not one he wrote.

In fact, it’s a cover of a song by an artist you may be familiar with: Taylor Swift.

Yeah, I was a bit mindblown at first, but after hearing him describe it in the video, it all makes a lot of sense.

“As we were picking songs to record for this cover album, this is kind of my little girl and I’s idea, she’s like ‘Dad you have to record a Taylor Swift song’ and I was like ‘Okay…’

And we listened to so many songs and I was like ‘Jolee, I can’t sing ‘Shake It Off.”

So I literally just went through Taylor’s entire catalogue and I found this one song, it’s called ‘Never Grow Up’ and I was like oh my goodness, I think in the song Taylor’s kind of singing to a little girl from a big sister’s perspective.

But I was like oh my goodness I can sing this from a daddy’s perspective.”

Knowing it was at the request of his little girl turns this from a head scratcher into a full fledged heartwarming moment.

His daughter, Jolee Kate Watson, will even be joining him for some harmonies on the song, which was released on Taylor’s 2010 Speak Now album and was a solo write.

He also referenced a cover album in the works and this being one of the first songs we get to hear from that, which is super exciting. He previously announced a cover of Rosanne Cash’s “Seven Year Ache” featuring Jenna Paulette also coming out this Friday, so the spread on this album is already shaping up to be something special.

Mark your calendars for April 28th, because Aaron Watson will be singing Taylor Swift and it’s probably going to be emotional.

Check out the original version of the song here.
