Skier Nearly Gets Swallowed Up After Falling Down A Deep Crevasse In French Alps

Skier falls France

Skiing is a loved leisure sport for thousands and thousands of Americans year in and year out.

It’s a great opportunity to get away with friends and family and enjoy some beautiful views, while also attempting to perfect a sport that involves high levels of intensity, speed, and concentration in an effort to not break every bone in your body.

But speaking of breaking every bone in your body while skiing, this skier didn’t just nearly do that, they almost got hidden in the snow forever.

This video was taken by a skier, Les Powtos, flying down a Meije mountain, located in Hautes-Alpes, in the French Alps. The area is known for it’s insane skiing.

Everything appears to be going smooth for the first bit of the video, and then things take a turn QUICK.

All of a sudden, a massive, hidden crevasse appears out of nowhere, and at this point, it’s too late for the skier to adjust and avoid it.

The skier falls down the crevasse, appearing to topple down several feet before finally being able to catch themselves.

Needless to say, if they would’ve fallen down any further, there’s a good possibility that they may not be found again and left for dead. It’s pretty wild to see just how far they fall, but when you look down into the crevasse, it looks like it never ends.

The skier is actually very experienced and was more than prepared for the scenario. According to his comment on the video, he quickly swapped out his skies for crampons, grabbed the ice axe from his bag and started climbing back up. Eventually, his friends caught up to the spot where he fell and dropped a rope down and they were able to pull him out.

Insane…
