Could this be it?

Turnpike Troubadours fans were sent into a frenzy this weekend after an unreleased song, “Mean Old Sun,” appeared on TouchTunes jukeboxes across the country.

It appears the song was somehow mistakenly added, as it’s since been taken down. But fans went crazy at the opportunity to hear the first new music from Turnpike since Evan and company debuted the new song “Cat In the Rain” at the White Oak Music Hall in Houston, Texas, and then played it again at Red Rocks the following weekend.

We know that there’s new Turnpike music in the works: As soon as they started touring again last year, the rumors started flying that Turnpike had been working on a new album, possibly with Shooter Jennings producing, and there was even talk of an Evan Felker solo album coming as well.

And then back in February of last year, we saw pictures of what appeared to be the boys at FAME Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and it really got the wheels spinning.

Then, Evan Felker officially put those rumors to rest at Red Rocks back in May of last year:

“I heard a rumor that we’ve been working on a record… and that rumor is true. I’m gonna play something new for ya”

But that was the last official update we’ve heard on a new album, and it was almost a year ago.

So when are we going to be getting the long-awaited studio return of Turnpike?

Well the boys just teased a “special announcement” coming later this week – but it’s buried at the bottom of a post on their Instagram.

In the post, Turnpike announced that due to issues with the sale of tickets for their previously-announced arena show in Washington, DC (thanks to Ticketmaster of course), the show would be postponed to a later date.

But that’s not the real news here. Anybody who had planned on attending that show may not be too disappointed, because there’s also a line snuck in at the bottom of the post teasing another announcement later this week:

So could this be it? Are we finally going to get a new studio release from Turnpike, nearly 6 years after their last album?

I guess we’ll find out soon…but maybe the TouchTunes leak wasn’t an accident after all.
