Could it be?

I suppose it’s no secret that Turnpike Troubadours should be releasing new music this year.

As soon as they started touring again last year, the rumors started flying that Turnpike had been working on a new album, possibly with Shooter Jennings producing, and there was even talk of an Evan Felker solo album coming as well.

And then back in February of last year, we saw pictures of what appeared to be the boys at FAME Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and it really got the wheels spinning.

Then, Evan Felker officially put those rumors to rest at Red Rocks Amphitheater back in May of last year:

“I heard a rumor that we’ve been working on a record… and that rumor is true. I’m gonna play something new for ya”

Titled “Cat In The Rain,” Evan and company debuted the new song at the White Oak Music Hall in Houston, Texas, and then played it again at Red Rocks the following weekend.

However… that was nearly a year ago, and we really haven’t heard anything about this new album… until today.

And we have TouchTunes to thank.

Yeah, the digital juke box that you can find in bars and restaurants across the country… that TouchTunes.

According to a couple accounts on Twitter, including Georgia Red Dirt Music, a new song titled “Mean Old Sun” has launched on TouchTunes, perhaps by mistake.

Another account in Texas found it too:

And then I pulled up the ol’ TouchTunes app and looked up some local bars around me here in Chicago and found it at a number of them as well (I seriously considered running to a bar down the street to try and hear it for myself).

But, we have a little preview:

First of all, props on the bar… looks like a great little dive.

But second of all… HOLY SHIT.

I imagine the song will be removed from TouchTunes so it can have a proper release, however, it has to be a good sign that something is coming soon from the best band in country music.

Stay tuned people… it’s gonna be a good year.
