We’ve had a lot of mixed answers when it comes to the future of Yellowstone.
It all stems from the rumor that Kevin Costner could possibly be exiting the show, due to a conflict in scheduling where he allegedly asked for only one week to film the second half of Season Five due to his busy schedule this year.
Since then, there were rumors that a Matthew McConaughey spinoff series could be in the works, which was officially confirmed a few weeks back, regardless of the future of the show with Kevin Costner.
Yellowstone exec Keith Cox also said at PaleyFest that they were “very confident” that Costner will be returning for the second half of Season Five.
However, a few stars on the show, such as Dawn Olivieri (Sarah Atwood) and Josh Lucas (the young John Dutton), may have alluded to the possibility of Costner getting killed off the show, with others admitting that they have no clue what’s going to happen.
Regardless of what the final word will be, we know that we’re probably going to have to wait until November at the earliest for the show’s return, a year after the premier of the first half of the season.
Needless to say, we’ve heard a lot of negative news.
So, it’s pretty refreshing to get some good news, and we’re getting it once again today, but as far as the rest of the story goes, Taylor Sheridan is working on it right now.
According to Deadline, Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton), Piper Perabo (Summer Higgins), and Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) made an appearance on Deadline’s Contenders Television panel yesterday, and director/executive producer Stephen Kay says that the fog will hopefully be clearing sometime soon.
“Taylor (Sheridan) is in Texas spinning hay into gold and we’re hoping we’ll do it soon. Everybody’s excited.”
Bentley also chimed in, admitting he has learned to not theorize so much when it comes to Yellowstone, and his character Jamie:
“What’s been great about Taylor’s writing is he literally surprises me every time I pick up a script… but it’s usually tough. So whatever it’s going to be it’s going to be hard to do.”
Perabo seconded the statement, saying:
“I can’t imagine what’s gonna happen to Summer next. That’s what’s sort of terrifying.”
So, fingers crossed that production for the second half of Season Five begins soon… and WITH Kevin Costner.
Here’s a quick recap of Season 5… so far:
