MARCH SADNESS: Sad Country Songs Championship Voting Is LIVE

March Madness bracket

This one’s for all the marbles.

For our 6th Annual Whiskey Riff Madness tournament – or as we’re calling this one, March Sadness, we paired up 64 all-time great sad country songs and let you, the readers, vote for your favorites. And now, it’s time to vote on the winner.

There were more votes in the Final Four than any other round of the tournament so far. So let’s see who’s going to head to head for the title.

The first matchup of the Final Four was a battle of #1 seeds, “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones vs. “Whiskey Lullaby” by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss. Both of these heavy hitters had made relatively easy runs through the tournament, but it’s time for one of them to make their exit. And with 55% of the vote, the Possum’s classic hit is moving on to the championship round.

Then we had “Broken Window Serenade” by Whiskey Myers going up against “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. Whiskey Myers fans have been showing up big time the whole tournament, but going up against a song like “The Dance” was just asking too much…

Or so we thought. Turns out, Garth was no match for “Broken Window Serenade,” which won with a staggering 80% of the vote.

Here’s a look at the updated bracket:

So the championship matchup is set: “He Stopped Loving Her Today” vs. “Broken Window Serenade.”

Can Whiskey Myers’ pull off an upset over one of the greatest country songs of all time? I’m definitely not counting them out.

But now it’s time to vote and find out.

Voting is open now, and you have until 11:59 pm CDT on Monday, April 3 to get your votes in. As always, you can vote as many times as you want either down below or by clicking the link here.

And make sure to come back Tuesday to see which of these two comes out on top as your favorite sad country song.
