If the lead single is this good, I can’t wait to hear the whole damn record.
Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real announced today that their new studio album Sticks and Stones will be out everywhere on July 14th:
“Our new album, #SticksandStones, will be available on July 14!
Pre-order the album and listen to our new song, #MoreThanFriends (feat. @laineywilsonmusic), out now! Link in bio.”
He dropped the first song this morning, a duet with Lainey Wilson called “More Than Friends,” and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since.
And I mean that in the best way possible… I am obsessed, truly.
It has such a catchy hook and infectious melody, their voices sound great together, and they have a really great natural chemistry that just makes it all work so well.
Lainey even called it an “instant classic” on her Instagram stories, and I have to agree there. She ain’t lyin’.
And in addition to the new song, they put out a music to go along with it, which finds them playing together in a little honky tonk, absolutely bringing the stage down, while a seemingly new couple seemingly decides to take Lukas’ advice in the song.
Though he told CMT that it may not be the best advice…
“Let’s have some fun. It’s not the best advice necessarily, but not every song is.”
He also added that he called Lainey on the night of the 2022 CMA Awards to ask her to sing on it, where Lainey would later win two trophies for New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.
Of course, since then, she’s absolutely blown up into a mainstream superstar, and Lukas says he’s just thankful he asked her before she got too busy:
“Luckily, she agreed to do it because she won two awards that night and really blew up.
She might have been way too busy after that!!”
He also called the experience working with her the “bees knees,” and I can only hope this isn’t the last we see of these two as a duo…
