Now this is the proper way to honor the Man in Black.
Nashville Soccer Club just unveiled a brand new, all-black kit (uniform) paying tribute to the life and legacy of the late, great Johnny Cash.
The jersey has some really cool features, with a jock tag with the legendary black and white image of Johnny Cash in front of a jail cell at Folsom Prison.
This photo was taken around the time that Johnny Cash performed his live album Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison on January 13, 1968 for an estimated 1,000 prisoners.
The back of the neck features Johnny Cash’s autograph in white.
They are super badass and a really neat nod to his great legacy in Music City, and his son, John Carter Cash, says the town meant so much to his father that he’s proud to have him celebrated in this way by the NSC:

Connecting the Cash legacy to Nashville Soccer Club and Major League Soccer, and the joy it’s bringing to Nashville residents, would have made him proud. I’m delighted to see the Man in Black celebrated alongside the Boys in Gold.”
Ian Ayre, Nashville SC CEO, added that it was an opportunity for them to honor their “uniquely Nashville” roots:
“From the first day we started Nashville Soccer Club, we talked a lot about being ‘uniquely Nashville.’ This city is steeped in music history and Icons of that industry.
None more so than the Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash…
I don’t think there can be a greater tribute to Johnny’s place in music history or Nashville than to have a team full of Men in Black take the field on behalf of Nashville SC.”
The photos and video were partially taken at his cabin recording studio, which is another cool way to incorporate Johnny’s enduring legacy into this reveal.
The Nashville SC will wear the whole kit for the first time on the 2023 opening home match against the New York City FC on February 25th.
The jerseys are available for fans to purchase, and will be worn by the team throughout the 2023 and 2024 MLS seasons:
