This is absolutely terrifying.
When you’re a homeowner, concerns typically consist around paying the mortgage, or remembering to lock your door every night…
And not worry about a massive BOULDER smashing through your home, and nearly hitting and killing you instantly.
This nightmare turned into a terrifying reality for Honolulu, Hawaii, resident Caroline Sasaki on Saturday night.
According to Khon2, a development next door that excavated the nearby mountain has caused great concern for Sasaki and her family.
They didn’t have this issue before the development, but now, they’ve have not only one, but THREE boulders come down the mountain over a 24 hour span.
As you can see in the footage, the boulder comes flying through the wall of Sasaki’s home, only missing her by maybe a couple of feet.
She told the outlet:
“Today, I am a little better; but last night, I was very shaken. I really didn’t know what happened except for the loud boom.”
She also admitted that it was hard to sleep, and the family had just moved back in only a week before.
Sasaki also admitted that the issues only began when a home development was being carved into the side of the mountain, and has been incredibly rare in her lifetime:
“We lived in this same location. We just knocked down the old house and rebuilt it; and it’s never happened before, heavy rain and hurricane warnings nothing. So, no rocks ever came down.
We’ve had some issues with them carving the mountain, and I don’t know if that’s the cause.”
However, the development owner Bingning Li said that the project and the incidents are not connected:
“Not at all, this is from way above, I looked at one of those rocks about 50 feet away from on top of the property and landed over there and then made its way down here.
So it hit one of the cables that was supposed to stop it and the cable snapped. That took a lot of energy away otherwise this damage would be way more.”
But, Sasaki still believes that this is a direct connection, and said in one final statement:
“Department of permitting and planning, the Department of Emergency Management, the mayor, the councilman, they should all get involved because people’s lives are at stake.”
Yikes.
