Nicholas Jamerson Drops “Watching The Fire Burn,” From Upcoming Album, ‘Peace Mountain’

Nicholas Jamerson

Nicholas Jamerson doesn’t miss.

The prolific Prestonsburg, Kentucky, songwriter released his first single of 2023 “Watching the Fire Burn” today, and it’s an absolute heater.

For those of you who are not familiar with Jamerson’s music, he is one of the most underrated songwriters in country music and has been a leader in the Appalachian music scene for almost a decade.

He initially found success alongside his buddy Kris Bentley in Sundy Best, forming the duo in 2010. Between 2013 and 2016, the band released four albums and a live album, garnering a large following before parting ways in 2018.

Sundy Best announced in 2020 that they would be getting back together, and have released several singles over the past year in preparation for their comeback album release of Feel Good Country on February 3rd.

But while Sundy Best was on ice, Jamerson never took his foot off the gas. Since 2016, Jamerson has released four albums and a handful of singles solo and with his band the Morning Jays, including three singles in 2022 for his upcoming solo album Peace Mountain.

Today, Jamerson released the album’s fourth single “Watching the Fire Burn,” and it may be the best one yet.

While this one pushes the limits sonically of what we are used to hearing from him, it is still distinctly Jamerson in its sound and is highlighted by his masterfully vivid lyricism.

Describing a romantic relationship in which a couple shuts out the opinions of the outside world and finds solace in each other’s love, “Watching the Fire Burn” is a must listen for everyone this weekend.

“We rolled those left handed cigarettes and we melted into a cocoon
It felt just like the afterlife in our living room
They said ‘loving that girl is bad news, she’ll run you half to death’
But I don’t believe that stuff, no matter what the whole town says…”

“Watching The Fire Burn”

“Watching the Fire Burn” is the fourth single thus far leading up to the release of Jamerson’s May 19, 2023 record Peace Mountain.

And if the singles he’s released thus far are any indication, then this could be one of the best albums of the year.
