Lainey Wilson’s Rendition Of “Christmas Cookies” Is a Must-Have On Your Holiday Playlists

Lainey Wilson country music

It’s finally that time of year again.

The time to start watching Hallmark Christmas movies, making holiday playlists, and buying presents for everyone and their mother’s brother.

The most important of those though is making the playlist, obviously. I mean, what else are you going to listen to while driving hours to see family?

I’ll admit that I was less of a Grinch than normal this year, and I’ve had my playlist completed for a few weeks now. So I am full of recommendations of country Christmas songs (because those are easily the best).

And my biggest recommendation is this  Lainey Wilson cover of the George Strait classic “Christmas Cookies.”

“Christmas Cookies” is my absolute favorite holiday song because it’s just fun and sweet and doesn’t make me sad at all. Not that I mind a sad Christmas song, but you know, holiday cheer and all that jazz.

If you’ve never heard this feel-good song, the singer is raving about their partner’s Christmas cookies, about how much they love them, but the cute twist at the end is that they love the cookies so much because while the cookies are in the oven, the singer gets some lovin’ from their partner:

“Now there’s a benefit to all of this
That you might have overlooked or missed
So now let me tell you the best part of it all
Every time she sticks another batch in the oven
There’s 15 minutes for some kissin’ and’a huggin'”

While George Strait’s version is incredible because, well… he’s George freakin’ Strait, I gotta admit that it’s Lainey Wilson’s version that has been dominating my brain. Like, I can’t get her voice out of my head.

This 2021 cover has such a fun spunk that Wilson adds. Strait’s version is cozy, but Wilson’s version makes me want to dance.

If you’re loving her latest album Bell Bottom Country, then I guarantee you’ll dig this cover because she brings the same vibe. And if you’re not totally sold (or you are and just want more), check out her live performance of the song on CMA Country Christmas last year.

Wilson is dancing around in, you guessed it, plaid bell bottoms looking cooler than I ever will.

And if you don’t want to build your own, we got you.

Let’s face it, a lot of Christmas music sucks… it’s played out, it’s overdone, but when most artists try something new and original, it ends ups being pretty corny.

So, we took the opportunity to compile a quick playlist of some of our favorite country Christmas songs…. songs that definitely don’t suck.

Merry Christmas from the Whiskey Riff family.
