Greenville Country Music Fest Was A Helluva Weekend

What a weekend.

Greenville Country Music Fest was a helluva time, and last weekend, me and some of the Whiskey Riff team were lucky enough to attend the 3-day festival in beautiful Greenville, South Carolina.

And while this particular festival is only its third year, they’ve come a long way, with an absolutely stacked lineup of headliners including the great Zach Bryan and Turnpike Troubadours, as well as other fantastic performers like The Marshall Tucker Band, ERNEST, Flatland Cavalry, Stoney LaRue, Larry Fleet, 49 Winchester, Charles Wesley Godwin, Them Dirty Roses, Carter Faith, Jonathan Peyton, The Piedmont Boys, Taylor Ingle, DJ Slim McGraw, Yesterday’s Wine, Hayden Coffman and Faith Schueler.

When we heard about the top tier quality artists they were having out this year, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check it out for ourselves.

We set up shop, quite literally, at CCNB Amphitheater at Heritage Park in Simpsonville, SC, and from meeting and talking to some of our favorite artists, to making friends with the fans, introducing the uninitiated to Whiskey Riff and playing an insane amount of beer-pong, it was a hell of a good time and I hope I get to do it again.

This year, the sell out crowd of over 14,000 people made their way to the festival grounds for a weekend full of great music, and none of it would’ve been possible without the superstar team that makes this festival happen, Mike, Shannon and Zoe.

They’re the best in the business, and made sure we had everything we needed to make the weekend a success, even though they were insanely busy running around trying to get things done themselves the whole time.

We can’t thank them enough for all of their help leading up to, and during, this past weekend.

And possibly the most fun part of the festival for us, aside from hearing so much great music all day long, was getting a chance to chat with some of our favorite artists about a multitude of different things, including one of our most pressing questions:

“Fuck, marry, kill: steel guitar, fiddle and banjo.”

You can check out the great responses from Flatland Cavalry frontman Cleto Cordero, Charles Wesley GodwinErnest, plus Grady Smith and Country Central, here:

We also sent some of our writers out into the crowd to poll the fans, which you can watch here:

While there’s much more to come from a content standpoint, I want to thank all the artists for taking some time to talk to us while at the festival, and also some of them for rockin’ our merch on stage, like our guys of Flatland Cavalry and 49 Winchester:

And quickly, I want to shoutout everyone on our Whiskey Riff team, and photographer/videographer extraordinaire Axel Marcenaro, who each worked so hard all weekend to help make this event a massive success.

Greenville is such a fun and charming town, and I already know the 2023 lineup is gonna be just as badass  as this one was, so if you can, get your ass there.

Thanks again for having us out, GCMF. Cheers to all of you for a hell of a festival and a hell of a good time.

We’ll hopefully see y’all back in South Carolina to do it all again next year.

And in case you missed it, here’s Zach’s epic encore of “Revival” in the pouring rain from his headlining Saturday night set last weekend.
