Shania Twain Breaks Down Some Of Her Most Iconic Fashion Moments Over The Decades

Shania Twain country music

Not that there was ever any doubt, but Shania Twain has still got it.

On the heels of releasing her first single since 2017 called “Waking Up Dreaming,” the queen of pop country sat down with Bustle to break down some of her most iconic looks throughout her career.

And I don’t even know how they narrowed it down… she has a lot of ’em, that’s for sure. Next to Dolly Parton, it’s hard to imagine a country artist who was so well-known, aside from the music, for their impeccable fashion and taste.

Let’s take a look at some of her favorite’s:

1993:  Shania Twain Album Cover

Shania started the breakdown with the cover of her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1993.

The album cover features her standing in the snow next to a real fire, with a real wolf, because the wanted to introduce herself to the world as the authentic Canadian that she is:

“At the beginning of my recording career, I felt that it was really important to be my most authentic self, and introduce myself to the public as the Northern Canadian girl that I am.

So I wanted to do a photo shoot in the snow, which is a lot of how I spent my youth. And Im wearing my mukluks that my grandmother made me and a sort of matching winter coat. And trust me, it was very cold, so I needed it. And that’s a real wolf, and that’s a real fire.

And which, trust me, at photoshoots, you don’t normally have a real fire, so I wanted this to be very authentic and it really was.”

1995: “Any Man Of Mine” Music Video

Of course, we all remember that all-denim outfit she wore in this video (which is actually called a Canadian tuxedo), and she joked, saying she loved this shoot so much because she still had her 24-inch waist:

“I love this video, because I still had a 24-inch waist. My waist is belted, it was the high waist at that time. The wardrobe came right out of my own closet, the denim vest and the denim jeans.

The little muscle shirt underneath, the ribbed one, and I just took the scissors and cut it off, because I figured I needed to enjoy my midriff in this video.”

If ya got, flaunt it, Shania…

She loves horses, too, and borrowed actress Bo Derek’s chaps for part of her wardrobe, which is pretty cool:

1999: “That Don’t Impress Me Much” Music Video

Possibly one of her most iconic looks of all time, Shania just remembers loving leopard and wanting her stylist to make an all-leopard outfit for this video.

It was also the first time she wore a wig in a video:

“This video is probably one of the greatest learning experiences I’ve ever had making a video and working with the clothes designer on the fashion, how I was going to move in the clothes.

I needed it to be stretch, I love leopard print, so we agreed on stretch velvet leopard print fabric. And we bejeweled it with a lot of red, ruby red, so I wanted the lip to be matching ruby red.

And this is the first video I that ever wore a wig, so that was really fun, in case you thought it was my real hair, it’s not.”

1993: “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” Music Video

Another one of her greatest outfits, Shania said she wanted a very specific look for this shoot, going for a menswear-inspired getup to have a more literal interpretation of the song:

“Marc Bouwer designed it and stitched it himself, even the corset, the short the hand made boots, all of this beautiful satin and the high collar.

And what I wanted for this, I wanted a very masculine presence to my femininity in the video and I wanted it to be more literal. I wanted man shirt, short skirts, it was a very exhausting video, but the clothing was so tight.

I learned another good lesson making this video, because it was no stretch in the satin or the corset, I guess the idea, it’s meant to cinch you in and push you up, but I was really really struggling on that.”

2022: Coachella Performance With Harry Styles

Shania took the stage with pop star Harry Styles at Coachella last year, with both donning completely sequined outfits.

Apparently, it wasn’t even planned, but of course, they nailed the outfits and the performance, which Shania says is one of the highlights of her life:

“Okay. I mean, this is one of my greatest highlights ever, because I’m on stage with Harry Styles and we are singing ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman.’

And we look like we matched the fashion beforehand, but we didn’t. I did ask him before, I said, ‘What are you wearing?’ You know, like anyone would. And he never got back to me with the final look, and I picked this one.

And it was perfect with Harry! And I really just love this little throwback. It’s kinda Mick Jagger-ish. So we were on the same page in every way.”

I can only hope to one day be in my 50’s and still rocking a full-on sequin dress like her:

Shania also talked about the white gown she wore to the 1999 Grammy’s, the 1999 CMA Awards pink faux doe skin outfit, her 2012 Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas Residency, as well as her look for her Super Bowl Halftime performance in 2003.
