Patsy Cline’s hometown of Winchester, Virginia recently announced that they would be naming the post office in their walkable downtown after the successful country singer. The continued mission to preserve Cline’s legacy comes on the heels of what would have been Cline’s 90th birthday.

Long considered one of the leading forerunners for females in country music, Patsy Cline was one of the first women to sell records and be the solo headliner for shows.

Cline was well-known for her tenacity in advocating for herself and pursuing her dreams.

Even with a music career that was cut tragically short, Cline became the first solo female to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry.

Following her tragic death, Decca Records re-released her music, granting Cline even more subsequent success. The Patsy Cline Collection Box Set was released in 1991 and included all her previous recordings for Decca and Four Star in the hopes of honoring her entire career.

Following the post-office dedication announcement, Cline’s daughter offered a sincere thank you to those involved in the project, noting how proud her mother had always been to be from the “old town of Winchester,” and how honored she would have been to be remembered in such a thoughtful way.

The post office historical landmark, signed into law by President Joe Biden, will stand as the third location honoring the late Cline in her hometown following her historic homeplace and the memorial bell tower near her gravesite.

According to WUSA, Rep. Jennifer Wexton released the following statement regarding the  new landmark:

“Patsy Cline was a trailblazing woman in the music industry, a legendary vocalist whose music and influence touch us still today, and, most importantly, a beloved daughter of Winchester, Virginia.

I’m proud to have carried the legislation which will forever commemorate the legacy of Patsy Cline by renaming the Walking Mall post office in her honor. As we approach what would have been her 90th birthday later this year, I’m excited that we’ll have one more way to celebrate Patsy’s remarkable life here in her hometown.”

Cline’s daughter Julie Fudge also weighed in:

“On behalf of the family, I would like to say how honored we are at the naming of the US Post Office in old town Winchester after my mother, Patsy Cline. Mom was always so proud to say she was from Winchester.

I know she would be so proud and thrilled to be remembered in such a wonderful and thoughtful manner. I’m sure she would want to thank you for all the work that went into this honor. We sincerely thank you.”

Patsy’s dream home also recently hit the market in Nashville, Tennessee.
