He just dropped the fourth single and title track to his forthcoming album, “Mr. Saturday Night,” and this is easily my favorite one so far.
First of all, it’s soaked in steel and packed with fiddle, and is a good old fashioned honky tonk heartbreaker if I’ve ever heard one. It has all the makings of a truly fantastic country song, and that’s exactly what it is.
“I feel like everybody wants to be Mr. Saturday Night at one point on the weekend and have a good time. But then you hear the song and, the way it’s so well written, it’s a sad song, but you don’t go there right away, because it’s also a fun song.
That’s the thing about ‘Mr. Saturday Night,’ it’s more than meets the eye. It’s all fun until you get to the chorus.”
The lyrics are sold, too, where Jon uses a very clever play on words to describe his heartbreak of missing a former flame, saying that he puts on a brave façade and is always out on the town as “Mr. Saturday Night,” even though he was out without the girl he loved and “missed her Saturday night.”
Jon, Bart Butler, and Ryan Gore co-produced the album, the same team that put together the California cowboy’s kickass Heartache Medication album back in 2019.
And from the four singles he’s released so far, this album is shaping up to be a real honky tonkin’ masterpiece and might just be one of the best projects we get in 2022.
Definitely make sure you check out this new one from the California cowboy:
