And I thought this song could never get any better…
Kip Moore put out an acoustic, bluegrass version of his fan-favorite deep cut “Plead the Fifth” with Boy Named Banjo, the opening band on his upcoming Fire On Wheels fall tour.
His raw talent and passion comes through so effortlessly on this rendition, and the addition of the banjo just takes it to another level. I’ve always been partial to this song, especially the acoustic version he plays often at his live shows, so this new bluegrass take is, quite literally, music to my ears.
“Plead the Fifth” was written by Luke Dick and Josh Kear for Kip’s 2017 Slowheart album, and finds him reflecting on a lost love, and though he won’t admit it to himself or the girl, wishing things would’ve ended differently between them.
He’d rather “plead the fifth,” as the title indicates, than have to own up to the fact that he still wants her.
And Kip’s more hard charging, southern rock-leaning sound just sounds so damn cool with a bluegrass take. He always shines with a more stripped-down, acoustic backing, and I need more of this:
I know I say this all the time, but if he’ll be anywhere near you on this fall run, do yourself a favor and go check out one of his concerts. All tickets go on sale this morning.
