According to WHLT, a Mississippi youth league softball ump got decked by a sorry excuse for a parent after a 12-year-old’s softball game.
Kristi Moore said she ejected Kiara Thomas from the game for incessant profanity, as well as arguing calls, from the bleachers, and then was attacked in the parking lot after the game.
She reportedly was screaming that she was going to “f*ck her up” from the stands, as well as issuing more threats.
Which she unfortunately carried out.
The umpire, who is a 10-year veteran of youth league softball, called the entire thing ridiculous:
“This has been very very hard anywhere I go. Of course at this point, people know who I am and looking at my eye, and the people that don’t know, and they ask.
They applauded when I tell them what happened, but the hardest part of it all was going home that night and my children seeing me, and they just burst into tears about it. And that was really hard trying to talk to them about it.”
Thomas, was charged with simple assault, and according to the Laurel Police Department, she has been banned from all rec league activities and facilities in Jones County.
Her child’s entire team was also removed from the USFA tournament.
So the mom wearing a “mother of the year” shirt ruined it for daughter and for the entire team? Unreal…
Your kid is TWELVE… this isn’t the World Series.
What do we gotta do to get some kind of legislation for folks that are regularly harassed and assaulted? People like umpires, flight attendants… I mean, none of these people should have to deal with this kind of shit.
Can we get harsher penalties for this kind of behavior?
Absolutely no excuse for this whatsoever…
Kristi Moore shared the following statement on Facebook after the attack:
“Soooo, this is embarrassing if I’m going to be open and honest about it. But, it’s real life and it’s unfortunate that it has gotten to this place.
The next time you go to a tournament and you only have one umpire on the field…this is why. When you have brand new umpires on the field that may not know everything they should know yet….. this is why. When you don’t feel you have the quality of umpires you should… this is why.
When the day comes that your kid can’t play a ballgame because there are no longer officials to call it….THIS.IS.WHY.
Before you post the next “funny” meme about umpires that suck, or are blind, or have missed calls on their phone or whatever it is, before you post about how an umpire was so awful and terrible and lost the game for you… why don’t you sign up?
