You have to imagine that when Tom Brady announced his retirement, he had to have received a TON of stuff.
Gifts from fellow athletes like Peyton Manning, gifts from sponsors like Nike or Under Armour, gifts from random brands he’s had relationships with, and hell, I’m sure he even got some gifts from other random celebrities. celebrities
But then… he unretired?
So… what me and Peyton Manning want to know… what happens to all the stuff?
According to Peyton Manning, he sent Tom a nice letter and a nice bottle of wine, and now, he wants it back. During an event hosted by The MINT Collective this weekend, Peyton had the crowd laughing:
“I wrote this long statement, so I mail it to him, sent him bottle of wine, and he unretires and I want the letter back.
He got to read all these nice things, I want it back… I want the bottle of wine back too.”
Peyton Manning said that, when Tom Brady retired, he sent him a handwritten note and a bottle of wine.
Tom Brady Announces He’s Not Retiring And Will Return To Tampa
What the hell is even going on here?
Earlier this year, there were rumors from NFL insider Adam Schefter that Tom Brady had decided to retire and put an end to his legendary NFL career. His dad and agent initially disputed those rumors, saying that his son hadn’t made up his mind yet, but just a few days later Brady seemingly put an end to the story and announced his retirement on February 1, after 22 seasons in the league.
The announcement seemingly marked the end of a career for indisputably one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. And with seven Super Bowl rings to go along with just about every statistical record in the books, why wouldn’t he hang it up? He has nothing left to prove.
But almost immediately after his announcement, Brady fanned the conspiracy theory flames once again by hinting that he still might change his mind on retirement:
“I’m just going to take things as they come. I think that’s the best way to put it. You never say never.
At the same time, I feel very good about my decision. I don’t know how I’ll feel six months from now. It may change, it most likely won’t, but I try to make the best possible decision I can in the moment, which I did this last week.
I think it’s not looking to reverse course, I’m definitely not looking to do that. But, at the same time, I think you have to be realistic that you never know what challenges there are going to be in life.
I love playing, I’m looking forward to doing things other than playing, that’s as honest as I can be.”
Well, it looks like he’s changed his mind again.
Brady announced on social media that he’s NOT going to be retiring, and will return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his 23rd season in the NFL.
“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG”
Well that was quick. Brady’s retirement was even shorter than Urban Meyer’s time in the NFL.
