On This Date: Brooks And Dunn’s “Brand New Man” Album Goes Quadruple Platinum In 1994

Brooks and dunn country music

It’s hard to overstate the influence Brooks & Dunn had over the country music scene in the 90s.

After somewhat successful, albeit short, solo careers in the 80s, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn teamed up to form the power duo Brooks & Dunn in 1990 and country music has never been the same.

The two went on to chart 20 #1s, win 17 CMAs, 26 ACMs and 2 Grammys, get inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame and somewhat single-handedly make line-dancing cool again with their huge hit “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” which was released on their debut album Brand New Man in 1991.

But that wasn’t the only hit from their debut album.

In fact, it was the 4th single released from the album, all of which had something in common…

The first was the title track “Brand New Man” which debuted at Number 1, only the second country single to ever do so (Diamond Rio’s “Meet In The Middle” was the first just 4 months earlier.)

Next came “My Next Broken Heart”, then “Neon Moon” (which recently got a ton of love on Tik-Tok) and then the ode to Texas honky-tonk dancing, all of which went to Number 1.

Four consecutive Number 1 singles to start a career? Not to shabby…

These hits lead to fans buying a lot of albums… like a lot, a lot…

By the time November 29th, 1994 rolled around, just over 3 years after its release, the album was officially certified Quadruple Platinum, the first country record by a duo to do so.

But it didn’t stop there.

The record continued to sell extremely well for years, so well that it’s now sitting at 6x Multi-Platinum. That’s 6 MILLION album copies sold, an insane number for any album, let alone a debut project…

Now grab a Coors Banquet, pull out that CD player and take this baby for a spin, I know at least a few of you still have it laying around somewhere…
