If there’s one 90’s country song I will never, ever get tired if hearing, it has to be Deana Carter’s timeless hit “Strawberry Wine.”
And, she recently re-released her iconic album Did I Shave My Legs For This? as a special 25th anniversary project with remastered versions of all the tracks, as well as a few reworked versions featuring some younger artists like Lauren Alaina and Ashley McBryde.
Did I Shave My Legs For This? peaked at #2 on the Billboard U.S. Top Country Albums chart back in 1996, and featured the classic, aforementioned song “Strawberry Wine,” which hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs that same year.
Deana, Lauren, and Ashley, along with Martina McBride, and Kylie Morgan, did an awesome new rendition of “Strawberry Wine” for the record, and Vince Gilleven played guitar on the track, too.
It’s pretty much my favorite 90’s country song ever, and I think it resonates with so many people still to this day because of the universal sentiments of growing up and the pain that comes along with that.
Deana says those coming-of-age themes are deeply embedded into every song:
“That whole record was really about longing for innocence again, even though I was young. You’re mature enough to understand that (growing up) is painful sometimes. And all of your firsts, there are great elements to that.
There [are] also some hard elements to that. That’s why I wanted to title the album, ‘Did I Shave My Legs for This,’ to keep a light (mood).…And even within that song, it’s about not getting exactly what you want out of a situation. But you just you make the best of it, and you learn and grow from it.
Also, though, I just love how much fun it is to song. If you don’t have the immediate urge to sing it at the top of your lungs every time it comes on, you might wanna check your pulse…

Deana also re-recorded “Did I Shave My Legs For This?” with Terri Clark, Sara Evans and Ashley McBryde with Vince Gill that’s pretty kickass, too:
