Thomas Rhett Teams Up With His Dad For Heartfelt New Song “Things Dads Do”

Say what you want about Thomas Rhett, Lord knows we’ve been hard on him over the years, but this new Thomas Rhett we’re seeing lately is producing better tunes than he has in years past.

Granted, saying how you’re coming back to your “country roots,” is the hot new thing right now, but I suppose I’ll take this over the straight-up pop music he was releasing on his last album. At least this new one has some heart…

Titled “Things Dads Do,” the new song highlights the amazing parts about fatherhood, as well as all of the life lessons Rhett learned from his dad, Rhett Akins, who co-wrote the song.

Thomas Rhett discussed the love he has for the song:

“This is probably my favorite song I’ve gotten to write with my dad. I’ve learned so many life lessons from him, and it’s pretty wild to see so much of him in myself now that I’m a dad.

It felt like we should go ahead and release it for all of y’all who have been asking since we wrote it and to celebrate all the dads out there!”

Of course, the timing of the song is a little corny, with Father’s Day coming this weekend, but at the end of the day, it’s a pretty solid song about dads, and inches him a bit closer to the spirit of true country music. Country fans are craving realness right now, and this feels authentically Thomas Rhett, who has clearly demonstrated how much family and fatherhood is the cornerstone of his life.

As much as we like to gripe about the current state of mainstream country, you gotta take some time to appreciate the steps in the right direction, however small they may be.

He also debuted the new tune at the Grand Ole Opry this past weekend.
