The Smiths are officially expecting a baby.
Announced today, Granger Smith and his wife Amber are expecting a baby boy this coming August. Granger broke the news with a deeply emotional announcement video, a letter their late son River, who passed away in June of 2019 after a a tragic drowning accident.
“We’re pregnant.
I don’t have many words for this video. Life isn’t perfect. Sometimes it’s beat up and broken but it’s NEVER hopeless. God promises that. Our story isn’t finished yet, and neither is yours! Through our suffering and joy, God’s glory radiates through it all!
A new Smith boy is due in August.”
Amber also shared the same video to her Instagram account, accompanied by the following statement:
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19
God has made a way we never thought possible. If I’ve learned anything over the last 2 years, it’s that I do not have as much control as I think I do.

Never did I think at 39 I would be blessed with expecting another baby boy. These past couple of years have been so rough but also so full of so much joy, hope, healing, growing and grace from God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
Lord, I pray that our story can speak life to someone else who may be suffering to never give up hope. To surrender their burdens to you. To trust you even when it hurts. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10

They followed up the announcement video with an emotional explanation of their journey, how they thought River was their last child, how they had considered adoption, and everything they’ve been feeling so far at 16 weeks. Overall, they wanted to remind people who are struggling that it’s not the end of the story. No matter what you’re facing or what you will face, it’s not the end of the story.
