Eric Church Keeps Kickin’ A**, Releases Hard-Charging “Heart On Fire”

Talk about setting the tone.

I suppose you set the tone for an album with the lead single, which Eric did with the face-melting “Stick That In Your Country Song,” the tune that “kicked like a fucking mule,” as Eric so eloquently described it.

But now that we know we’re looking at a three-album project, with a heavy emphasis on vinyl, “Heart On Fire” is the first track you’re gonna be spinning on the beautiful white records (if you’re a Church Choir member, regular vinyl for the rest).

“‘Heart On Fire’ is the first song on the Heart album, and normally if we had four songs about heart, with the way we used to do this we would cut three of them out and we’d do one. It started to be cool that this time we could lean into that sameness and the themes where you can put the songs together and know we wrote these within this much time of each other.”

Written by Eric Church, and Eric Church alone… in addition to “Jenny,”  it’s the only other track on the three albums that Eric wrote by himself. With a heavy dose of the keys, rip-roaring guitar solos, those signature Joanna Cotten background vocals, and a windows down, bang on the steering wheel kind of attitude, “Heart On Fire” is near the top of the list for me… so far.

“A turned up radio but the static was heavy
Couldn’t make out any words but ‘take me to the levee’
That look on your face was full of wild desire
Soakin’ my soul in gas and settin’ my heart on fire
Heart on fire, heart on fire, heart on fire.”

Seriously, is it April yet?

Heart will be available everywhere on Friday, April 16th and Soul will hit shelves on Friday, April 23rd. & will only be available in vinyl, and exclusively to Church Choir members, on Tuesday, April 20th.
