In a typical bizarre “press conference” held by Garth, he just announced that he will be withdrawing from all future CMA Award nominations for “Entertainer of the Year” (he will still accept noms for other categories).
In case you need a memory refresher, Eric Church was robbed blind last year. A total mf’ing joke if you ask me. Carrie Underwood’s fans thought the same thing.
Garth referred to a tweet he saw which said: “Hey man, this guy, why doesn’t he step down and just have the entertainer be for the next generation?”
Garth response? I “100 percent agreed.”
It’s awfully convenient to make such a statement when there are no concerts for the foreseeable future, ESPECIALLY STADIUM concerts (AKA the only shows ‘g’ will play). I KNOW he did a “dive bar” tour, but it was a gimmick. Garth mostly plays places where he can break the attendance record, and while doing so, he might redo the same song 6 times to make it just right for CBS (ie, Notre Dame).
“So with all the love in the world, all the great fun, because the last thing I want to do is seem ungrateful to the CMAs and everybody that has voted for us. We are officially pulling ourselves out of entertainer of the year. And my number is seven, you guys know that. And we feel very lucky with seven. And it’s time for somebody else to hold that award, know what that entertainer feels like. Because they’re all out there busting their butts.”
All the love and great fun in the world? Huh? Has Garth turned his cellular device on in the last 6 months? The world is on fire.
Garth also admitted the backlash from winning “wasn’t fun.”
While the intention of Garth here is to come off as a touring legend stepping aside for the younger generation, it also sort of feels like a guy saying “I know I’m the biggest and the best and make the most money and will keep winning these, and I’m good with 7.”
Sheesh.
