NASCAR Driver Brad Keselowski Files For Child Custody Following Separation From Wife

NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski and his wife, Erika Paige Keselowski, have officially separated, leading to a legal battle over custody of their children.

The pair married in 2017, and have four children together: Scarlett, Autumn, Maize and Sterling Robert.

According to court documents filed on August 7, 2026, in Iredell County, North Carolina, Brad submitted a Complaint for Child Custody alongside a Motion to Seal. The filing reveals that the couple, who were married on February 10, 2017, officially separated with the intention of permanently living apart on March 18, 2026.

However, they’re not filing for divorce…. yet. In North Carolina, you have to be separated for one year before you can file.

Allegations

According to the complaint, which has been obtained by Whiskey Riff, Brad is asking the court to grant him temporary and permanent shared physical and legal custody of their four minor children.

However, the court documents paint a picture of a highly strained co-parenting relationship, with Brad claiming that Paige has “severely and inappropriately limited” his parenting time since they split.

Brad alleges:

  • Paige has allegedly refused to allow Brad to have any overnight visitation with their children.
  • He has requested overnight visits on no less than 30 separate occasions, all of which Paige denied.
  • Paige told him, “The kids live here with me, not there with you. This is their home.”.
  • Paige is acting as a “gatekeeper” to his access to the children, strictly limiting his time to days and durations entirely dictated by her.

The filing also states that Brad has concerns regarding Paige’s “mental and emotional well-being”.

To support his request for shared custody, Brad notes in the complaint that he has a home equipped with dedicated living spaces for each child. He also stated that he has support staff and family members ready to assist with childcare.

Motion to Seal for Privacy

Alongside the custody complaint, Brad filed a Motion to Seal the court records, specifically requesting that the family’s physical residential addresses and the children’s school locations be entirely redacted from public view.

The motion emphasizes his status as a “high-profile public figure” and a “professional NASCAR driver” whose life is subject to intense media scrutiny.

Brad’s legal team argued that making their addresses publicly accessible would create an “immediate, serious, and irreparable threat” to the family’s physical safety due to potential risks from “uninvited fans, paparazzi, corporate stalkers, and members of the general public”.

Understandable…

All in all, seems like a tough situation for the Keselowski family.

A couple years ago, Brad shared a video titled “The Business of Being Brad: The Family Man” on his YouTube channel:

Of course, this news also comes on the heels of news that Brad will be leaving RFK Racing at the end of this NASCAR season.

Leaving RFK Racing

A few weeks back, RFK Racing announced that they will be parting ways with Brad Keselowski, driver of the #6 car in the NASCAR Cup Series, following the 2026 season. But he’s not just a driver for the team: He’s also a co-owner and the “K” in RFK Racing.

Keselowski invested in what was then-known as Roush Fenway Racing back in 2022, and took over driving duties for the #6 car. Since then, Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing has won 7 races, including 5 wins for Chris Buescher in the #17 car, one for Ryan Preece in the #60 earlier this season, and one for Keselowski himself at Darlington in 2024.

In announcing the departure of their co-owner, RFK Racing President Chip Bowers expressed his appreciation for all that Keselowski has done for the team:

“We are big fans of Brad as a person, driver, and colleague. The impact Brad has made on our organization has been felt by everyone associated with RFK Racing; he’s undoubtedly been a terrific representative of our collective efforts both on and off the track. He was not simply driving the No. 6 car but investing himself in the future of the team and helping us think differently about what RFK Racing could become.

We have tremendous respect for Brad as a champion, competitor, and leader, and we are grateful for the energy and commitment he has brought to RFK. Brad has been clear about his desire to continue competing for years to come, and we respect and support him in pursuing the path that best allows him to achieve those goals. With several races still ahead, we look forward to competing together through the remainder of the season.”

It’s definitely been a tumultuous year for the former NASCAR Cup Series champ.
