Elizabeth Hurley understands why some people see her and Billy Ray Cyrus as an “unlikely pairing,” but she recently assured all of the doubters that they are very much compatible.
It was the celebrity couple that no one saw coming. Cyrus and Hurley went public with their relationship in April of 2025, and they’ve been together ever since. As to how they met, the story goes that the model/actress and the 90s country music singer met on the set of the 2022 film Christmas in Paradise, and there was evidently an undeniable connection from the very beginning.
That being said, the pair apparently didn’t speak for two years after the filming of the Christmas movie. It was only when Billy Ray went through his public, messy divorce from Firerose that prompted Hurley to send him this text message to check in. Hurley went into detail about what exactly brought them together when she sat down with the The SheerLuxe Podcast last week:
“A few years (after the movie), we met up again, and it I can see us an unlikely pairing in some ways. But then it isn’t really in some ways either because we’ve both had quite similar lives in that we’ve both lived out of suitcases our entire lives.”
The two celebrities also had rather recently gotten out of relationships when they met one another, so they had that in common as well.
Clearly, the similar lifestyles of Cyrus and Hurley – both past and present – acted as somewhat of a foundation for their relationship. They were able to relate to the hustle and bustle of the past, while also bonding over their approach to their modern lives:
“We both a long time ago moved out of the cities. He’s got a farm in Tennessee, I’ve got one here in Herefordshire (England). Neither of us really go out much unless we have to because it’s work. So there are a lot more similarities than you’d think.”
What are some of those other similarities, you might be wondering?
Hurley was nice enough to reveal some of the things that brought her and the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer together… and even went as far to call herself and Cyrus twins:
“We have the same hair. Well, identical hair apart from his beard. We’re actually like twins. There are differences, but because we both like sort of snuggling up, we’re actually quite similar.”
The model and actress also said that she and the country music singer did DNA tests, and both of them had the exact same ancestry: Irish, English and Scottish.
One way Hurley did say they are different is that Cyrus “bumbles around” in the kitchen, whereas she is a bit more organized and skilled in that department. All in all, it was interesting to hear her talk about how the puzzle pieces of their lives fit together, because up until now, we just had little snapshots of their relationship mainly through social media.
