Enough is enough.
You can argue that, despite the monster success over the past few years, Treaty Oak Revival has been one of the most controversial bands in the genre as of late. Beyond the fact that their patented blend of country, rock and grunge has infuriated the likes of many die-hard country purists, their rowdy live shows have also caught some major flack over the past year.
It’s not like Treaty Oak themselves are doing anything never before seen at concerts, quite the opposite, actually. While, of course, you’ll never see the likes of George Strait or Alan Jackson and their backing bands crank up the gain on their electric guitars, lay waste to some grungy, country-fried tunes and spray a couple beers out on the stage and crowd, it’s not like their Texas, country/rock predecessors such as Koe Wetzel haven’t raised some absolute hell at venues across the nation.
It’s safe to say that this is highlighted best (and arguably most notably) during their live performances of their 2021 fan-favorite “Boomtown.”
At this point, if you’ve been keeping up with the alt. country/southern rock scene in general, I’d be surprised if you haven’t seen a few viral videos of Treaty Oak’s “Boomtown” tradition at each and every one of their concerts. Simply put, it gets PRETTY wild every night, with frontman, Sam Canty, and Co. starting the song off by giving fans in the front of the pit a good ole beer shower.
As it is with many good things, however, this has quickly devolved into some chaos at quite a few shows. There have been quite a few different occasions where drunk audience members have decided to chuck nearly full beer cans recklessly into the crowd, even hitting fellow fans in the head.
Not only are fans at risk, however, Canty himself got hit by a seemingly full (or near-full) beer can at their South Carolina show back in September, which not only gave him a pretty nice gash on his cheek, right above his right eye, but also knocked his microphone straight off the stand during a performance of “No Vacancy.”
Over the past year or so, it’s not just beer cans that are being chucked into the crowd by fans, however. Back in March, a fan in North Carolina went viral after throwing a trash can down from the balcony, hitting multiple attendees down below.
Despite the band, namely Canty himself, calling for fans to stop throwing beers during the show, it hasn’t stopped in the slightest, and recently, it’s gotten even worse with fans now throwing chairs into the crowd.
This was highlighted for the first time last month during their set at Rock The Country in Hastings, Michigan, when a (probably) drunken fan absolutely chucked a folding chair, hitting multiple fans who were standing ten or so rows in front of him.

In case that wasn’t enough, just a few weeks later during their show at the Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater in Bristow, Virginia, last weekend, yet another person chucked a chair, clearly hitting someone once again.

To make matters even worse in the case of the Bristow chair-throwing incident, a fan named Halie claimed in a now-deleted TikTok post that she went to the hospital with a concussion after getting hit with the chair, originally writing:
“I hope these people feel real proud of themselves mean while I have a concussion.”
Though they’ve tried to put an end to things in the past, going on Tracy Lawrence’s podcast to condem the beer-throwing in the past and putting signs up at concerts, it clearly hasn’t worked, and the chair incidents are making things even more dangerous for fans.
Because of this, Treaty Oak took to Instagram this afternoon to once again reiterate that enough is enough when it comes to throwing things at their shows.
With the entire band next to him, Canty would address all the chaos directly from Treaty Oak’s Instagram for the first time. Here, he’d once again reiterate that he’s all for getting rowdy — beer showers and crowd surfing included. With that being said, however, he’d put his foot down and explain the entire band does not condone the throwing of anything — beers, chairs, etc. — towards other fans or them on stage.
“We’ve seen the videos, and we’re not happy with what we’re seeing. We put signs up, but I guess y’all don’t see them. So we will say it from us directly: Please stop throwing sh*t into the crowd or at the stage during ‘Boomtown.’
We’re all for beer showers; we’re all for crowd surfing. We’re all raging and having a good time, but please do not throw hard objects into the f****** crowd. It’s hurting people, and we don’t f******* condone it. So please, take care of each other. We’re family. Let’s have f****** fun… Don’t throw sh*t.”
Treaty Oak concerts can not keep devolving into chaos every weekend, and it’s great to see the band finally issue a full-fledged warning to their fanbase.
