Nicholas Jamerson has a great desire to document his life, but he does it a bit differently that most others probably do.
The country singer joins the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast to talk about his home state, detail how he’s been writing a song a week for the last three years, and why he’s trying to release fewer songs at a time to better suit the modern day consumer’s attention span.
The “Linda James” singer also talks about being process driven over product driven, why he loves it when bands like Ole 60 cover his songs in concert, and his decision to step in as a soccer coach for his kid’s team… and why he’s workshopping bringing a banjo to the soccer practices.
Jamerson has found the “Dad Life” to be very fulfilling (if you can’t tell that already by him stepping up to coach soccer), and he’s already seen how its affected his career as an artist and songwriter. Not only does he want to be at home more… the country singer feels as though documenting what’s happening around him is more important than ever.
Though he does pull out his phone every once and while to capture memories in real time, he’s very intentional about making music that encapsulates the current era of his life:
“We do (record) for sure, with our phones. But my songs have really shifted towards my experience as a parent. That just feels like the most natural thing for me to do. It’s the best of both worlds…
It’s just been such a paradigm shift. I’ve just been saying, ‘I really feel like this is an important time that I’ll never get back, and I really need to document what I’m going through.’ When in doubt, just go to the song.”

His songwriting has become an important tool in his documentation of life, but that’s not to say he doesn’t ever use the technology that’s at his fingertips.
If you consider yourself a fan of Jamerson, you likely follow him on socials, and thus, you’ve seen that his social media pages are just as much outdoors accounts as they are focused on music. That’s a byproduct of living in eastern Kentucky… the wildlife is abundant. So much so that there was even some wildlife inside his Kentucky home recently:
“There was a raccoon in my house not long ago. My daughter left the door open, and we were in the living room and I was like, ‘What is that noise?’ And it was a raccoon in the mud room pulling (a bag of) cat food outside. I was like, ‘Man that is bold.'”
I wonder if that will turn into a song on an upcoming project? We can only hope.
