Finally… an outdoors video featuring an influencer where the person actually showcases what to do instead of what not to do.
We’re truly in the influencing era of social media. It seems like no matter who you choose to follow online, the feed is always littered with influencers telling you about this new product, or that new fad. There’s a whole industry built around it now, whether you like it or not.
It’s even dipped into the world of fitness, and fitness coaches like Jewels Szegedi (who I believe calls Alaska home) use social media to help bring in clientele. In one of her latest videos, she was right in the middle of a workout when a potential, wild client crashed the backdrop.
Have you ever had your workout interrupted by a moose? Didn’t think so.
Moose are the largest of all deer in the deer family, and their height and weight might surprise you. Males are typically bigger than females, with bull moose usually standing at 6 feet tall at their shoulders and weighing up to 1,400 pounds. They are towering animals, and if you don’t really realize just how big they are until you see them in person.
Szegedi was doing an outdoor workout with her headphones in – and recording it – when she got way too close for comfort to a moose. The big ol’ animal snuck up on her, and once she realized that, she gathered her things and quickly got the heck out of dodge.
The fitness coach ran up to where her phone was set up as the moose came into the frame of the shot, which made for quite the funny visual… and turned this post into a viral video:
“When your workout includes sprinting from wildlife. I keep trying to tell y’all, bears and moose are too common for me to wanna do outdoor runs.”
Just passing on by.
It was a fairly mundane interaction, but it still stands as an example of how things can go down in places where wild animals like moose roam. Those that live out in the wild have to be used to animal encounters like this, and considering the circumstances (having no idea the moose was there), Szegedi handled it quite well.
You generally aren’t supposed to run away from animals out in the wild, since it can trigger their chasing instinct. But this moose didn’t really seem to be in the hot pursuit kind of mood. Everyone in the comment section commended the fitness influencer and coach for how she dealt with the close encounter, and people also had plenty of observations about the moseying moose:
“I ran away from a lizard… cannot imagine the pace I’d hit running from this moose.”
“Moose are quiet aren’t they? They just kind of APPEAR.”
“The smartest response to a moose I’ve ever seen on social media.”
“That moose was just casually taking its mid day stroll and getting its steps in.”
“It was absolutely the correct reaction, but you’re reaction, followed by him just ambling into the shot, was hilarious.”
“Looks like the moose just wanted to strut in the video.”
