There’s simply no denying that Ella Langley is the hottest country singer on the planet at the moment. Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few months, you’re well aware that her October single, “Choosin’ Texas,” has been taking the world by storm lately. It’s hard to even state the importance of the track at the moment. Not only did it allow Langley to become the seventh woman in history to top the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, but she also became the first woman ever to triple up and top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay and Hot 100 charts simultaneously. Additionally, last week, she’d dethrone Taylor Swift and officially become the first female country artist ever to spend 4+ weeks at #1 on the Hot 100.
Of course, there’s a lot more on the horizon for Langley. In the middle of “Choosin’ Texas’” massive climb up the charts, back on January 27th, the Alabama native would officially announce that her highly-anticipated sophomore album, Dandelion, would be released next Friday, April 11th.
Undoubtedly becoming one of the most high-profile album drops of the year in the genre, Langley would note that she wanted it to feel like “the best kind of Sunday afternoon,” and the record really serves as a love letter to her childhood memories and that feeling of nostalgia and freedom:
“This record has so much growth in it. I’ve never poured more of myself into a project, into a song, into an idea, and it’s fallen out so beautifully. It’s about learning yourself, making mistakes, and realizing that it’s all just part of life.
I want this record to be something that fans can relate to, but also something they want to get up and dance to at the same time. To me, this record feels like fireflies in the summertime. It feels like windows down on a red dirt road. It feels like the best kind of Sunday afternoon.”
Despite how anticipated Dandelion‘s release has been up until this point, Langley has been keeping her cards close to her vest regarding the actual tracklist. Since its announcement back on January 27th, all major streaming services, as well as iTunes and her website, had every unreleased track blank.
That changed this morning.
Whether it was intentional or not, the entire 18-song tracklist for the upcoming record was leaked onto Spotify this morning. Though there have been plenty of talks and speculation about potential collaborations on the album, there’s only one here: a highly-anticipated duet with Miranda Lambert titled “Butterfly Season.” Of course, it only seems fitting to feature Lambert on the album, given the fact that she not only co-wrote “Choosin’ Texas” but also produced the album alongside Langley herself.
A song that’s bound to turn the heads of classic country fans can be found towards the end of the album, none other than a cover of Kitty Wells’ 1952 classic, “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels.” As one of country music’s first female country stars, the track has remained one of the most overlooked yet important pieces of country music history, being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998 and the National Recording Registry in 2007.
Another thing to note about Dandelion’s tracklist is the fact that it contains both an intro and an outro, simply titled “Froggy Went A Courtin’.” Though it might not mean much to the average listener, it’s nice to see Langley approaching an album as a complete piece of art rather than a compilation of songs like many of her contemporaries in the mainstream like to do lately.
All in all, it looks like Langley is gearing up to deliver her most personal, well-realized album to date with Dandelion, and it will be here in just EIGHT days.
