Not a fan of this engagement, eh?
In July, Zac Brown Band frontman Zac Brown and jewelry designer Kendra Scott revealed their engagement via People. They first walked the red carpet of the AMA Awards together in May, and they said simply at the time:
“We are so happy and grateful that we found each other.”
The two had reportedly been dating for a few months at the time of their AMA red carpet debut, so who knows when they actually got together. But along with attending the awards show together, the couple was also photographed together at the wedding of Zac’s fellow country star Jamey Johnson later that same month, and she’s shared some photos of the two together during their relationship.
During an interview with Fox News earlier this month, Brown shared many details about the proposal, which he put a lot of effort into making perfect. In fact, he somehow had 30 elephants brought in (honestly, not sure how that works at all), which sounds like an incredible feat to pull off and find the perfect spot for it:
“Kendra’s such an amazing human being. We share so much in the way we love our family, the way we protect our people and our business, the way that we fight for good things in our philanthropy, the way that we choose to try to help each other.
I had to figure out a way to do it. So, we were actually on a river. And on a barge with 30 elephants on the bank and the sun setting and birds flying over and hippos in the water. And I got it good.”
And recently, Kendra shared her perspective on the proposal during an interview with Jenna and Friends.
“He did great, he did it all by himself. I know pink diamond. He said, ‘Baby, it’s the rarest, just like you.’ I mean, could you die?”
Scott starts off by showing off the massive rock on her finger. And when we say rock, it’s not an understatement.
“We were in Africa, and he set up a barge with lanterns, and we came up on a boat, and we got off, and there were elephants on the banks and hippos in the water. It was golden hour. I mean, we danced together on the boat and we listened to that song, ‘I may not be your first, I’m your last.’ And at that moment, he kind of got down on one knee. And I got on my knees with him. And we both were crying.
I don’t even know if we said yes, or what happened. I think I just said, ‘Yes, yes, yes,’ before he even got out ‘Will you marry me?'”
Jenna then asks Kendra Scott if she knew the moment was coming, and while she wasn’t positive, she had a feeling that he could pop the question after seeing the romantic setup.
“Well, when we pulled up, and I saw the lanterns, I was thinking, ‘Honey, if you aren’t doing it right now.’ You know what I mean? ‘Then you’re missing an opportunity!'”

Their union is neither party’s first union; this will be Brown’s third marriage and Scott’s fourth. Brown is in his late 40s, while Scott is a few years older, in her early 50s, and both have children from their previous marriages, totaling eight.
Brown went through a very public, pretty nasty divorce from Kelly Yazdi, whom he had been married to for just four months after getting married in a private Nashville ceremony. It was Brown’s second marriage, after he had been married to jewelry designer Shelly Brown, the mother of his five children, for 12 years, before the couple divorced in 2018.
If you recall, Brown and Yazdi were making headlines due to an ongoing legal battle, and Yazdi claimed that Brown has been trying to silence her by keeping her tied up in lawsuits since their divorce was finalized. Yazdi has made multiple posts about her relationship with Brown and even compared it to eerily similar moments he’s shared since getting with Kendra Scott.
Now, I’m no expert when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I have to agree with Yazdi: it does feel like a rinse-and-repeat in some ways.
That’s definitely the short-and-sweet version of all the drama surrounding Yazdi and Brown’s divorce. If you want to read about all of it, click HERE.
It appears that the public is siding heavily with Yazdi, though. Since Brown announced his engagement to Kendra Scott, many interview clips discussing their upcoming marriage are filled with women telling Scott to run. After the way Yazdi described Brown’s handling of their divorce, folks think he’s a walking red flag, and many believe his marriage to Scott could be short-lived, too.
Of course, we hope that things work out and they live happily together, but the public has very conflicting opinions about whether they are meant to last.
Check out some of the comments left on the clip of her talking about their engagement from Jenna and Friends:
“Isn’t zac brown the one trying to silence his still current wife?”
“Hopefully it doesn’t tarnish like what I’ve bought in her shops.”
“They’re both perfectly awful people that truly deserve each other.”
“It’ll be his 3rd and her 4th.”
“The second-hand embarrassment I had watching this.”
“She’s trying too hard to make it sound perfect…along with some not-so-subtle digs at his ex.”
“Maybe he will leave his ex-wife alone now.”
“Feels like a prequel to a divorce announcement.”
“He’s a giant red flag. This girl is gonna be put through the ringer.”
“His track record of love bombing continues.”
“I just got tired of hearing this long story. TMI.”
“Maybe the 4th time is the charm.”
“This won’t age well.”
“Makes me so sad. He’s an abuser.”
“I’m worried for her. He’s the biggest red flag.”
“RUNNNNNNNN GIRL RUNNNNNNNN – blink if you need help!!!!”
“Why didn’t you ask her about her fiancé’s behavior towards his ex?”
“She’s being love-bombed by a narcissist. I believe Zac Brown’s ex-wife.”
“I give it a year; they are both huge divas.”
